Undergraduate 9 credit microprogram
This microprogram offers intensive training for Indigenous community members interested in the preservation and interpretation of Québec’s archaeological heritage.
The Microprogram in Archaeology for First Peoples offers intensive training for Indigenous community member who are interested in the preservation and interpretation of archaeological heritage in Québec. By integrating Indigenous knowledge with Western approaches to scientific knowledge, the program aims to develop a holistic understanding of archaeology while promoting the values of respect, empowerment, and self-determination for Indigenous Peoples. You will acquire the practical and theoretical skills essential to an ethical understanding of archaeological research, protection, and management of archaeological heritage, while contributing to the Indigenization of archaeological practices in Québec.
This microprogram offers an introduction to the fundamental principles and concepts of archaeology in Québec, with an emphasis on the integration of Indigenous knowledge. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of the discipline, preparing you to contribute constructively to the preservation and management of archaeological heritage, while highlighting Indigenous values and perspectives.
This program is intended for Indigenous community members who are interested in archaeology and eager to combine Indigenous knowledge with academic knowledge in this field.
This microprogram is an excellent training opportunity for Indigenous community members wishing to develop knowledge and understanding of how archaeology is practiced in Québec. It is particularly relevant program for community members who aspire to become Cultural liaisons on archaeological sites, Land Guardians or Cultural Resource Management specialists for their communities.
