Karine Taché est spécialisée en archéologie du nord-est américain. Un des thèmes rassembleurs de ses recherches est la nourriture et l’ensemble des pratiques et choix culturels qui l’entourent. Elle applique des techniques développées en chimie analytique afin d’extraire et identifier des molécules organiques préservés en contexte archéologique, notamment à l’intérieur de la matrice poreuse des céramiques anciennes. Alimenté par des travaux de terrain dans la région des Hautes Laurentides, un de ses projets de recherche en cours se penche sur les modes d’utilisation de la poterie dans le Subarctique québécois. Outre ses travaux dans le nord-est américain, les contributions de Karine Taché dans le domaine des analyses de résidus organiques s’étendent également à d’autres contextes temporels et géographiques et s’intègrent dans un vaste programme de recherche qui tente de comprendre l’adoption et l’utilisation de la poterie à l’échelle mondiale, hors du cadre longtemps établi où cette innovation était uniquement associée à une agriculture émergente.
